I Get It - Technology is Expensive, But Do You Remember 30 Years Ago?

Dec
07

So, yes, I've just dated myself a little by using that title. But it's true! Everyone is complaining how expensive technology is to run their company today. Problem is, many are too young to remember the beginnings of today's computer technology. Now I am not going all the way back to the start of the mainframe system days, but let's explore early life of computers circa 1980's and move forwards from there.

Dear Microsoft Support ....

Jul
17

Dear Microsoft Support. Thanks for taking my call about my Windows 10 issue. But, let us be honest and clear about my Windows issues. I did not call you unprepared. Yes, I've rebooted my PC. Yes, all hotfixes and updates are installed. Actually, my problem arose after I installed the latest hotfixes. Oh, wait, no I did not install them, you did, automatically, without my input. So yes, this is your fault and please stop asking me to reboot and if I have installed updates. Can I please talk to a real Microsoft engineer and not someone in a 3rd party and foreign call center?

Attending Citrix XenMobile 10.x Virtual Instructor Training

Jun
27

Another virtual class is underway. This time I am taking the Ingram Micro sponsored "Citrix - Deploying Enterprise Mobility Solutions with Citrix XenMobile - CXM-303" online, virtual instructor led class. Students are in all US time zones, yet we are taking the same class at the same time. Citrix's GoToMeeting and GoToTraining are awesome products. I plan to take the XenMobile certification exam next week. That gives me all Citrix certifications under my belt. Honestly, I haven't seem much adoption of XenMobile (or other MDM, MAM, EMM) in the SMB space.

Conference Badge Zip Line - What?

Jun
18

Every year I attend a multitude of I.T. conferences attributed to the top tier hardware and software vendors such as Citrix, Microsoft, VMware and more. ... and every one of them gives you a badge to wear. One with your picture, another with a RFID chip in it so every vendor attending can scan your badge to place you on their email list. Truthfully, these conferences are all the same and they are getting lame. Time for a new format, are you listening dear vendors? Anyway, that's another story. Back to the badge dilemma.

Ten Commandments for Stress Free Programming (Shared)

Jun

Too funny not to share. Not sure who the original author was.

Ten Commandments for Stress Free Programming

1. Thou shalt not worry about bugs. Bugs in your software are actually special features.

2. Thou shalt not fix abort conditions. Your user has a better chance of winning state lottery than getting the same abort again.

3. Thou shalt not handle errors. Error handing was meant for error prone people, neither you or your users are error prone.

Just Started Using Twitter Ads For Business To Drive New Business

Jun
07

I have used click advertising before with Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other search engines. It's hit or miss. No pun intended.

Years ago, when I was selling after market toner and inkjet cartridges, and even a book on bankruptcy called "The Credit Secrets Bible", I was spending thousands of dollars on click advertising a month - and it worked well. Until the big box stores got involved and were outbidding my click budget and were selling the product cheaper than I could purchase at wholesale. Thanks Walmart!
